FrontierWings has been running about 3 months now, without too many glitches or annoyances. Of course I did (kind of expectedly) run into trouble with some addon aircraft, especially helicopters, because if addons do not adhere to the SDK standards from Asobo/MS, then I simply cannot support them fully. Problem was and likely always will be the detection of cargo/weights on board. I'd had to buy every single addon aircraft that doesn't work properly with FW, and try to debug their way to attaching/calculating cargo. Could become an expensive endeavor. :-)
So, generally I need to rely on what telemetry comes through the SimConnect API, and some aircraft simply don't give me all the necessary data I need to work with.
If you happen to have an addon aircraft that does not properly work with the FrontierWings client, just let me know on Discord and we'll find a solution. Helos from Taog's Hangar have caused problems because of their complex attachment system. Still working on figuring out something here.
Apart from that, now that FW has attained a proper level of stability, I can begin to work on some of the more complex tasks I've been mentioning from the beginning. One of those is the support of VR. I know there is a growing number of people who enjoy the virtual skies with a VR headset. I'd love to myself, but I get sick. Sigh.
To support VR, the best way probably is to write an EFB app that covers most of the interactions pilots need to have with the FrontierWings client. Haven't done EFB apps before, so this will be an interesting challenge.
The benefit of an EFB integration is that pilots who are running FS in VR mode won't have to switch to the FrontierWings client anymore, which is running as a separate app in the background. Having to switch between VR and desktop apps is a major pain in the butt, so my goal is to avoid that. I know there are other solutions floating about, like addons that'll project desktop apps into the VR space, but thats another layer of complexity, and not what I want people to have to deal with.
On a side note, I am constantly keeping an eye on XPlane 12. While VFR low and slow flying in XP currently is not nearly as realistic looking or pretty as it is in FS2024, there was an announcement that raises my hopes a little that things might get better in the future. I'd love to support X-Plane, this will remain on my agenda, but for the kind of flying we do in FrontierWings, XP just doesn't cut it yet - at least in my opinion. In any case the FW platform can pretty easily be connected to XP and extended with airport data from that sim. We'll see what happens in the coming months. If there are a significant amount of people who convince me to support XP (hit me up in Discord about that), it'll happen of course.
For now thanks again to everybody who is supporting FrontierWings in one way or another. I'll keep you updated on the developments, as usual.
