Random Flight Generator

Create and download random routes for FS2024 for free. Detailed help at the bottom.

Flight parameters

Leave distance empty for a random 20-200 nm leg target.
Minimum per-leg distance is 20 nm when using stopovers.
Stopovers are clamped to 0-50.

    Random Flight Generator help

    Where this tool comes from...

The RFG was originally created for the FlightSimSafaris.com website. It's been a fairly popular tool with thousands of uses. The FlightSimSafaris website was sunset, but I wanted the community to be able to continue to use the RFG, so I ported it over to the FrontierWings website.

    What this tool does...

It is a simple way to generate random flights anywhere in the world. Pilots often prefer certain regions or locations, so there is always some kind of bias in their choices. That is no issue at all unless you really want to explore and find new locations you have never flown over before. The RFG can help with that.

To give you a little bit of control over the outcome without compromising the randomness, you can create a single-leg flight with a certain distance or create a flight plan with a chosen number of stopovers. You will be able to see the roughly estimated time of the entire flight.

If you do not enter any values, the tool generates a single-leg flight with a random distance between 20 and 200 nm. The minimum distance for a flight or leg is 20 nm.

Some regions or countries are suggested more often than others because they have more airports and airfields. There is simply a higher probability that a country gets picked if it has more airfields.

    How it works...

RFG uses the FrontierWings airfield database which is derived from different sources and checked against the available default airfields in FS2024.

Addon airports are excluded intentionally because not everybody has them.

In some cases the country selection may not be entirely correct because the available simulator airport metadata can be redundant, incomplete, or ambiguous. There are fallbacks for common cases, but not every edge case can be caught. If in doubt, simply look at the map.

When you generate a multi-leg flight, the system keeps the route sensible. Without safeguards, a randomizer can produce a zig-zag path where two stopovers a few legs apart end up almost on top of each other. To prevent that, the generator checks turn angles and separation between stops, so your path keeps moving forward instead of looping back on itself.
